FAITH & PLAY STORIES

Faith & Play Stories Trustees
The "Faith & Play Group"

Picture
The Friends who co-author and publish Faith & Play stories and develop materials, some of whom have served on this group since 2005, are the Faith & Play Group and the trustees of Faith & Play Stories, Inc. They are storytellers, artists, teachers, historians, editors, and faithful Friends. This group also stays in close communication with corresponding members across the US who test stories in development, and with Friends in other parts of the world who are using Faith & Play and Godly Play. One member of the group is an accredited Godly Play Trainer, and serves as the liaison to the Godly Play Foundation.
Margo Inglis Lehman has been attending Sandy Spring Monthly Meeting since early childhood and formally became a member at age 18. She has been a First Day School teacher for more than 25 years and joined the Faith & Play Group in 2012 as a representative of Baltimore Yearly Meeting. In 1999, Margo worked alongside Barry Morley to find a way to bring the spirit of BYM Summer camps into the FDS classroom. “We were looking for a way to bring the spirit of the campfire into the classroom without building an actual fire. With Faith & Play, I believe I’ve finally found the answer.”

Candace Shattuck has been part of Faith & Play since its inception in 2005. She brings to the group not only managerial experience and writing skills (her first love), but also a deep interest in spirituality, in Quaker history, and theology. Candace has been a member of Third Haven Monthly Meeting in Easton, MD, for over 25 years. Following her husband’s death, she recently moved to Seattle, WA to live near their daughter and her family. Due to the pandemic, the transition is gradual, so she now lives “virtually” on both coasts.

David Wakeley, a member of Centre Monthly Meeting in Centreville, DE has been a member of the Faith & Play Steering Group since 2011. David has been a trained and practicing Godly Play and Faith & Play storyteller for many years. He was first drawn to the simple aesthetic beauty of the stories and became inspired to create materials. David’s creative background helps guide the group through artistic and story design problem solving.

Sallie Welte has been involved with Faith & Play since 2009, both as a member of the Steering Group and as a First Day School teacher at Goshen Meeting in West Chester, PA. Originally trained as a Montessori teacher, she brings both organizational skills and a love for materials to our work. “I am renewed by the work we do together, in the patient nurturing of a leading to its full expression in story.”

Melinda Wenner Bradley served as clerk of the Faith & Play Group from its founding in 2005 to 2018. A member of West Chester Meeting (PhYM), Melinda has been an accredited Godly Play Trainer since 2010, and leads Playing in the Light and Learning in the Light trainings in the US. Her journey in service to this work has taken her to Peru, England, and Kenya to share Faith & Play. What she most enjoys is being in a circle on the floor with children, wondering together. She is also Philadelphia Yearly Meeting's Youth Religious Life Coordinator and a co-founder of the Quaker Religious Education Collaborative.
